June 1st is a very special day in Ecuador, a day when children take center stage throughout the country. As the first Latin American nation to ratify the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, Ecuador celebrates “Día del Niño” (Children’s Day) in the middle of the year to reaffirm the fundamental rights of the youngest members of society and bring them great joy. In schools, this occasion is celebrated with plenty of music, dance, theater, and exciting games, while simultaneously fostering an awareness of the importance of children’s rights through play. It is a day of laughter and community, demonstrating how much the future and well-being of children are valued. Pakashka-Sacha and its volunteers share this day with the schools we support, providing cake and drinks.
