It was clear that good lighting was needed for the access road from the public road to the student-house. Because at night it can get extremely dark here in the Jungle without external light sources. But how? It was important to us that nature, the animals, should be as little as possible disturbed at night by artificial light sources. Costs were also a criterion, because 11 lamps had to be installed and wired over a distance of 200 meters. We could not find a selection of good usable lamps here in the region, so our creativity was challenged.

And our solution was:

A thick bamboo tube of 80 cm on a cement sock serves as a lamp post.

A large canning jar forms the lamp glass, a protection for the light bulb.

And an aluminum salad bowl adorns as a lampshade and provides protection from rain and sun for the whole construction. Also, with this large lid, the light is reflected only towards the ground and therefore is minimizing light pollution.

So they stand here like thin, strapping bamboo soldiers with large aluminum helmets. And now, when you walk in the evening from the entrance gate to the house, coming home, you feel safely accompanied. Protected by a small army of strapping bamboo soldiers with aluminum helmets lining the way.

Welcome Home
