We are looking for an administrator and manager for our student residence in the Amazon rainforest.
Our Philosophy
PAKASHKA-SACHA (Hidden Garden/Forest) is a student residence funded by the association SABER Y CRECER Switzerland, an association for the promotion and support of vocational and continuing education for indigenous people in the Ecuadorian rainforest.
The primary goal of this project is to curb the destruction of the Amazon rainforest through education.
SABER Y CRECER is committed to ensuring that motivated young people and adults with potential and ambition have access to professional universities. We want to offer indigenous young people the opportunity to acquire academic knowledge, but also to promote and preserve the knowledge of their culture.
The PAKASHKA-SACHA student residence was built precisely for this purpose and also sees itself as a hub and center for intercultural exchange.
Structure
STUDENTS: Supervision of 6-8 vocational students living in the student residence.
VOLUNTEERS: Deployment and management of 2-3 volunteers
FURTHER EDUCATION: Organization of further education courses
INFRASTRUCTURE: Maintenance of the PAKASHKA-SACHA infrastructure, surrounding area, and residence
Workplace
Residence: The PAKASHKA-SACHA student residence was built in 2020 and is located not far from the center of Tena (5 km).
The residence offers space for 6-8 students and a maximum of 3 volunteers who help with the project.
It has modern infrastructure, bathrooms, a kitchen, dining room, common rooms, laundry room, courtyard, and its own training room.
Surroundings: The student residence is surrounded by approximately 10 hectares of primary forest.
Various hiking trails have already been created and provide access to the hilly, wild primary forest. Small waterfalls, caves, and three small streams adorn this little paradise.
We are looking for:
A responsible individual, couple, or even family, to manage and shape the house and its processes.
– Support and coordination of students and volunteers
– Leading weekly team meetings
– Reporting of activities to the director in Switzerland
– Managing and controlling finances
– Minimum assignment period of 6 months
All processes and structures are in place and only need to be implemented and monitored.
All students and volunteers are integrated and assigned to the daily routine:
Household tasks are performed by the entire team. Cooking, cleaning, shopping, etc.
Landscape work is done weekly together in so-called mingas.
Larger jobs are outsourced to local craftsmen.
The goal is to accompany and support the students in their daily lives, both socially and academically. The project is non-religious.
The languages spoken in the student house are Spanish and English.
