Volunteers house over the river Napo

Hey, my name is Mara and I’ve been living in the Pakashka Sacha student house for a month now. The house is in the middle of nature, which makes it a very special place for me. Falling asleep to the sounds of the forest in the evening and being woken up again in the morning by them is something I don’t want to be without!
Every day in the student house brings me new insights and valuable experiences. I learned how to use machetes (although I still need a lot of practice :)), how to cut up a chicken or cook rice so that it doesn’t stick. In conversations about music, physics or politics I learn a lot of new Spanish words and in return I also try to incorporate a few German words.
In addition to living in the student house, working in the school of the Comunidad “Puka Urku” is also part of the project. From teaching English and math to making jewelry and building houses for frogs by the river, everyday life in Puka Urku is never boring. Even though working with the children is often challenging and requires a lot of patience, the children’s smiles show me that it is worth it.
I am incredibly grateful to be part of this project and I look forward to the time we have ahead of us together. To put it in the words I was taught here: ¡Muy posi!
